Success doesn’t just land on your doorstep. If you want something amazing to happen to you, you need to be proactive about it, and make it happen! And by being passionate and showing dedication, you will be one step closer to obtaining those goals.
However, in order to be successful in your endeavors, below are eight rules to keep you ahead of the game: with a little self-discipline, motivation and a strict game plan, you will be one step closer to being your very best.
Rule #1: Don’t be afraid to take a risk-
This doesn’t mean to drop everything you have worked hard for up until this point to be an extreme risk taker. Instead, don’t be afraid to take a “calculated” risk. In order for you to take a chance in life or with your career, you need to stop playing it safe all the time and ask yourself this: “If I wasn’t afraid of the ‘what ifs,’ what would I do about it?”
Rule #2: Have a hunger for what it is you want-
If you’re not in love with the choices you have made, then you’re probably not going to be motivated to stick with them. Think about it-how many times have we been unsatisfied with a job or even a diet, because we were not emotionally connected to it? So like anything else, we give up. If you are truly passionate about something, you create your own self-motivation, drive, and a pathway to success, because at the end of the day, it’s what truly matters to you. I’ve always been told, “Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” So go out there and hustle!
Rule #3: Believe you will be a success-
Trust yourself. Keeping a positive mindset, and thinking through your desired outcome will only help it become more realistic, approachable, and most importantly, achievable. Take it step by step and day by day. Do not overwhelm yourself! By taking your time executing your plan, you’re more likely to convince yourself that it is going to happen, which it will if you show yourself patience and gratitude!
Rule #4: Get physical-
This is a no-brainer, but often times, we are so caught up in our daily routine and other responsibilities, that we forget to treat our own bodies right. My mom always said to me, “Without your health, you have nothing!” So in order to be the best you, taking care of your body is a must: eat healthy, get enough sleep, take a few moments to have some alone time, breathe and don’t forget to exercise, exercise, exercise!
Rule #5: Know what success means to you-
Some define the word “Success” as having an extensive back account, the biggest house, nicest cars, or power over others. When in all actuality, success is whatever YOU determine it to be. For me, it is happiness. If I am not happy in my own skin, then the energy I express is only going to resonate in the world around me.
Success looks different to everyone, so whatever it is that you define it as, make sure it’s a good one!
Rule #6: Just keep learning-
In order to be the best, you need to learn from the best. Stay busy by asking questions, doing your homework, not being afraid to take advice or criticism, and staying up-to-date in your field. The most successful people have that hunger to learn more in order to be more. Developing new skills never set anyone back, and self-improvement only promotes progress and the key to moving forward.
Rule #7: Failure is a vital role in becoming a success story-
Whether we want to face the facts or not, failure is a key component in becoming successful in anything we have a passion for. Think about it: what if we gave up on riding our bike the first time we fell off, or stopped dating after a bad break up? Failure is a part of life; it’s unavoidable. So knowing that it is going to be there lingering in the background, try taking a positive spin on it, and view it as a great learning tool for what you need not to do next time, or ways for improvement in order to be that much better in the long run.
Rule #8: Show yourself some love-
Maybe it’s the yogi in me saying this, but my mindset was always focused on what I didn’t have, rather than being grateful for what I already had right in front of me. Again, a positive mind will only cultivate more positivity. Take time to pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for making it this far. And before you know it, you will be approaching the world with a whole new perspective-one that proves to you that you have what it takes…just have a little faith.
Most of these points can be easier said than done, but if you take the time to truly discipline yourself, and allow yourself the reassurance, that if you stay focused and keep your eye on the prize, success will ultimately be inevitable; and who knows, it may even stem into something more than you thought humanly possible.
