It’s Black Friday, and unless you’re living under a rock, you have probably heard of some of the stores that are having such great deals, you just can’t pass up the opportunity to barge through the doors at opening time, to hopefully be one of the lucky customers to actually score just what exactly it is that you’re looking for…in the meantime, here are some pointers to help you productively achieve your Black Friday shopping goals: purchasing everything you ventured out for, at an astounding price, because let’s face it, it can be a bit overwhelming (and if all else fails, at least you will be able to burn off all of that Thanksgiving Turkey, with all the cardio you’ll be doing!)…
#1: This is where the teacher in me comes out…DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Check out the store ads before going into the stores, and make sure to compare prices of items you are on the hunt for, beforehand. Store policies and restrictions are also important, as they tend to tell you what you will really be paying for when purchasing the item, or what other items you may have to purchase in order to achieve the true discount.
#2: Map it Out:
Some stores open earlier than others, so go to those stores first! Also check to see how long each sale is going on. Some stores, like Kohl’s or Macy’s may have their products on sale for a certain time span, so it’s important to map out a route that is going to be conducive and make the most of your bargain hunting.
#3: Break Up:
If you’re shopping with a partner, divide and conquer! Each get to the most important stores first in order to double up on your Black Friday Shopping (probably the smartest and safest route to go!).
#4: Have a Practical Plan:
Make sure to sit down and think through the process before your trip. Just as you would make a grocery list, or write a paper for English class (had to throw that one in there), creating a list not only saves you time in each store, but it also saves you EVEN MORE MONEY! Think about who you’re shopping for, how much you’re willing to spend on them, and what it is that you truly want to buy for them. Save time and energy that you could put towards all of the wrapping you will need to do afterwards!
#5: Price Matching:
My husband and I just did this the other day with new tires…again, this requires some research and planning, but it pays off! Many stores are willing to honor you the price on a product that another store might be selling at a lower price. Not only will you save money this way, but it will cut down on all of the unnecessary bouncing around you might have been doing.
#6: Comfort First:
Make sure to throw on your most comfortable shoes! You will be able to maneuver through the stores much faster, and you will be grateful at the end of the day when your feet aren’t achy, swollen, and blistered!
#7: Cyber Monday:
Don’t forget, this is the age of the internet…what you can’t find in stores, you may find on the stores website, and for an even lower price this coming “Cyber Monday.” Sometimes the sales do change on particular items, and sometimes, what you missed out on altogether on Black Friday, may still be on sale for the same exact price on Monday…it’s a sure way to save time, money and energy if you want to shop from the confinement of your own home. An upside to Cyber Monday: if you’ve already finished your Black Friday shopping, and saved yourself quite a bit of money, why not treat yourself to those items you’ve been obsessing over all season?
