Fall Fashion Round-Up

It’s the last Sunday before the official start to what I consider the “holiday season,” and the official welcoming of winter. So in order to say goodbye to fall, I am here to share my favorite ten looks from the past ten weeks that “Fashion’s My Favorite Subject” has been posting these weekly outfits of inspiration.

So here we are, my favorite ten looks from our Fall Fashion Round-Up (insert ESPN background music here…):

And as always, all looks or similar, have been linked for your convenience.

Look #1:

You might have seen this one-piece black and white, striped dress in my “Dressing Room Photo Diary”  blog post, from back in August. Not only do I love the look and fit of the dress, but it is extremely comfortable and breathable! I found this for $50 at H&M (now on sale for $35), but through “Retail Me Not” I received an additional 20% off. Grand total=$40.

Since the collar curves around the neck, I avoided wearing any necklaces, and kept the look simple. I included the black flip-flops, some arm candy and studded earrings. I felt like doing something out of the ordinary with my hair in more recently, so a side-swept traditional it was!

In order to transition this piece into the cooler months, I usually throw a cardigan over it, flats, boots (knee-length or booties), or to “sophisticate” the look, a cute pair of pumps (black, or a bold color)  to make the outfit POP!

Shop the look here: H&M (retails for $49,50, currently on sale for $35)

Look #2:

A “No-Nonsense” look was my goal for this ensemble! I grabbed my Chambray top, a black pencil skirt, added some accessories to liven’ up the look, tossed my hair up into a simple top knot (see my blog post on “Embrace Messy Hair” ), and off to work I went!

Chambray Shirt- J.Crew Factory (retails for $68.00, currently on sale for $48-I paid less than $40, but regardless the price-it’s well worth it!)

Look #3:

A little Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspiration: the Little Black Dress (L.B.D.)…add a few pearls, a top knot, and of course some form of flat shoes. Simple, yet classy-Audrey would be proud!

Shop the Pleated Shift Dress Here: J. Crew Factory (retails for $108, but currently on sale for $64)

Lauren Conrad Black Flip-Flops from Kohl’s last spring on sale for around $10

Look #4:

This is my, “Rules? What rules?!” look. I always hear people say that you should never mix patterns, because your look becomes too busy and that it “just doesn’t match!” Well, I just want to set the record straight- yes, stripes and plaids can and MUST be mixed! Granted, I have seen a fair share of hideous attempts at combining the two, and yes, it can be tricky, but once you’ve learned how to combine these (once lethal) patterns, you can truly begin to start transforming and maximizing your wardrobe to the fullest capacity. I also recommend that every woman has at least one nautical/striped shirt in their closet, whether it be in navy or the black and white version…such a versatile piece to dress up and down, regardless the season, and not to mention….they’re usually very reasonably priced!

Look #5:

I actually purchased this on a whim the night before, when I had to return a shirt to Forever 21. I stumbled across this grey, turtleneck sweater dress (with pockets!) in the softest material, and without any hesitation, ran to the dressing room, and reappeared as Forever 21’s happiest shopper that night. Going casual was what I was looking for, so with the help of some simple hair, a few accessories, and slip-on sneakers, this look became so effortless, and actually made my day-not to mention, any look that makes you feel good with little effort is certainly a win, win!

Look #6:

Now this is how I truly love to dress…by far, one of my favorite looks this season. My favorite comment however, was “Mrs. Piel (paused for a moment with brief puzzlement)…are those rain boots you’re wearing?” Yes, dear and prepare yourselves, because I trudge through the coolest months of the year in these Hunters. This is a perfect example of how I like to layer up with different color schemes, while adding a touch of pattern. I tried to keep them all in the neutral zone, then threw in some polka dots to contrast, and then I had to find a way to make the black boots blend, so I added a soft, chunky white scarf to help “neutralize.” This was not a pre-meditated look, either…actually, I was short for time, because I was having one of those, “I have nothing to wear” moments, that makes my husband freak! So, in a moment of shear inspiration, knowing that I wanted to wear the skirt and boots made it easier to work the rest of my outfit around them.

Look #7:

I very casually dressed up this button-down shirt and wool sweater, with a skirt I purchased earlier on in the season. It was a dreary day outside, and I needed a little pick-me-up. So instead of sticking to some basic colors to match my blue and white striped oxford and the grey wool sweater, I opted for my beaded “Aztec”-designed,  black, blue, white and grey skirt. The pieces complimented each other, adding some color to my top layers, and toning down the beaded work on the bottom half. Regardless, I had fun putting this look together, because I never really thought that these pieces could all actually “work” together.  See what I mean by taking a chance, and experimenting…? I just added a new selection to my wardrobe!

Look #9:

I always have fun wearing this vest! I can wear it to dress up or wear it when I’m trying to dress down, and it still keeps my look “put together.”  Believe it or not,  this was my most effortless styles I’ve pieced together for my blog. I literally threw on a pair of one of my “Walmart Favorites” (See my blog post on “What to Wear from Walmart”), a white blouse, and heels to help get past the fact that I opted for my yoga leggings, over black jeans while out and about. Can’t tell? The next time you feel the need to choose comfort over style, try rolling up the cuffs of your favorite leggings, throw on a long blouse (to cover your back end, and where the pockets would be) and you’ll have everyone fooled!
