What I Wore (Week #9)

Hello, Monday! I don’t know about you, but for some reason, I am looking forward to a fresh start this week. Last week, I felt completely “off” almost every single day, and I just could not break out of the funk I was in. Between my youngest child getting sick and losing a night’s sleep because of it, I was also thrown off by how hectic my daily routine went…needless to say, comfort played a key role in my wardrobe this week. Between tending to a sick child, carpool rides to basketball practices with my oldest, the dishwasher at our new home giving way, and having my daughter’s birthday party, I will admit, some peace and quiet is well-deserved (and much needed) this week!

So, on that note: here’s a look at “What I Wore” for this chaotic week!

Don’t forget: all looks, or similar, have been linked for your convenience!

Look #1:

This outfit was actually inspired by a senior at the school I teach at…a few years back, it was brought to my attention that I had a twin (more like a younger-MUCH younger, twin). So this year, we had the idea to dress alike. However, because the idea was planned on a whim, this was what we coordinated-but really, can you ever go wrong with neutrals?

Gap Factory Boucle drop-shoulder sweater purchased last weekend on sale for 60% off ($16.99) from $49.99

GAP Factory-Pencil Skirt (retails for $39.99, purchased on sale last week for 50% off plus an additional 15% from a coupon code on my last receipt)

Black Slip-Ons with thick white platform on clearance for $5 at Target, last weekend (similar style linked)

Look #2:

Definitely wanted to add comfort to my look this day, but I didn’t want to seem frumpy, so I went with the effortless shift dress, that never seems to disappoint! Adding a striped, long-sleeved shirt, a cute scarf, and boots to the mix, breathes life into this basic navy dress.

Nautical Boat Neck Cotton Shirt: Banana Republic purchased last winter on clearance for $10 (similar styles linked and I’ve also seen them in Target in navy and black and white)

Gap Navy Blue Shift Dress (from a few years back-found on clearance after Christmas for $12) Shop similar looks here

Plaid Scarf from Target last winter for around $19.99 (Shop similar styles here)

Wool (over the knee) socks, purchased from Target for $9.99 (women’s socks linked)

Tan riding boots by the brand “MIA” from Marshall’s for $50 last winter

Look #3:

I always have fun wearing this vest! I can wear it to dress up or wear it when I’m trying to dress down, and it still keeps my look “put together.”  Believe it or not,  this was my most effortless style of the week. I literally threw on a pair of one of my “Walmart Favorites” (See my prior post on “What to Wear from Walmart”), a white blouse, and heels to help get past the fact that I opted for my yoga leggings, over black jeans while out and about. Can’t tell? The next time you feel the need to choose comfort over style, try rolling up the cuffs of your favorite leggings, throw on a long blouse (to cover your back end, and where the pockets would be) and you’ll have everyone fooled!

Button-down collared loose fitting blouse-Express last spring on sale for 29.99 (shop similar styles here)

Faux Fur Vest purchased last winter at Target for $34.99. Although the exact style is no longer sold, they sell multiple ones with the similar look (linked), for the same price.

Black Leggings by Danskin from Walmart a few years back for around $10 (similar style linked, and now for $8).

Black, Leather Strappy Heels purchased last year from Kohl’s (Candies Brand). I was able to purchase them on sale, with an additional coupon for under $30. Luckily, I have linked this season’s spin on the heel.

Look #4:

Of course, my favorite of the week, because I could live in these J. Crew skirts and the softest flannel that I’ve just added to my growing collection of button-downs (remember: perfect for layering!).Not to mention, I have a new fixation with over-the-knee socks to scrunch down over my boots…I’m starting to collect them in just about every texture, and in every neutral color

Red, White and Blue Flannel Shirt purchased this week from H&M for 24.99

Grey and white striped, long sleeved, cotton shirt from Gap Factory (purchased on sale a few weeks back, for around $10 on sale-retail around $22)

Red wool J. Crew skirt purchased pre-loved on Poshmark last year for $15.00

Wool-Blend Grey Knee Socks purchased this week from H&M for $9.99

Ivory, Chunk Knit Tube Scarf from H&M last year for $12.99 (similar styles linked)

Tan riding boots from Marshall’s for $50 last winter

Look #5:

This was the morning after my sleepless night…so needless to say, I made it to work layered up with my favorite vest, some jeans, and another one of my great “Walmart” finds, just to turn around and go home halfway through the day to spend some much needed quality time with my sick, little birthday girl.

Black and White Striped Cotton Turtleneck purchased on sale this week at Forever 21 for around $5

Faded Glory, Women’s Long Sleeve Crew Neck Tee from Walmart, purchased this week for its hefty retail price of $4.88 (couldn’t resist, so I bought two!)

Light denim skinny jeans with zippers up the ankles, purchased late summer at H&M on sale for $24.99 (similar jeans are linked)

J. Crew Factory Excursion Vest purchased Labor Day Weekend on sale for $36-Retails at $108…currently on sale for $86-don’t worry, the sale on this continuously goes up and down…and Veteran’s Day is this week, so stay tuned!…Still not sold on the price? I saw similar ones for under $40 at both Target and Marshall’s.

Black, Glossy Hunter Rain boots-Purchased from Poshmark in new condition for $90-Retail price is usually around $150
